Three men approached them and stole from them, but they did not get far before one of them was captured by the police.
Ms Meisie and Mr Esrom Shabangu, and Mr David Malapane were walking home when they were met by the men on their way. It was around 23:30 on April 22 when they were attacked.
Ms Shabangu said that as they were stopped by the suspects, who forced them to lie on the ground and they were searched.
“He drew a gun from his jacket, pointed it at us and said ‘lie down, lie down’, for fear of our lives we did as we were told,” said a traumatized Mrs Shabangu.
The suspects did, however, not find much on the victims. Mrs Shabangu’s Nokia cell phone was taken along with Malapane’s Samsung cell phone, which was recovered during the arrest of one of the suspects, and R20 was taken from Mr Shabangu.
The victims were able to flag down a passing police van after the suspects had fled.
Malapane said, “I knew one of the men who robbed us. He lives around Old Coronation”. They found the suspects and the police were able to arrest one.
