Missing livestock

Livestock crime is becoming a concern in Ga-Nala, after an increase in reported cases over the past week.

On May 3, cattle was found missing in a kraal situated on Ga-Nala’s outskirts, another two animals were found injured.

On one of the farms in the area, some cattle were reported to have been cut on the legs, this was discovered by the owner who went out to allow his cattle to graze.

Suspects had cut the fencing to gain entrance to the kraal, the value of the missing cattle is R10 000. A case of stock theft is investigated by the police and no suspects were arrested yet.

On the same morning a 52-year-old farmer in Onverwacht went to the kraal in order to take the cattle for grazing and on opening the kraal, he counted his cattle and he discovered that 17 of his cattle were missing, valued at R200 000.

The police would like to urge the community to protect their livestock from stock loss by tagging and branding their livestock even prior to major sale as it is law. This will also help the police when tracing and also during identification of stock if lost and later recovered.
All stock crime has to be reported as soon as possible to the police.
