Two girls, aged 16, were raped in Vosman on June 6 by a man that is known to the community and them. The man is alleged to be a dangerous person as the girls also confirmed this in their statements to the police.
Ms Dorcus Malalane* was at work when she said that she received a call from her cousin, the girls’ aunt, who told her to rush to the police station at Vosman as her daughter was there with her friend. Upon her arrival at the police station she was told that her daughter and friend had just reported a case of rape. When Ms Malalane asked the girls what had happened they told her that they were at the park and a guy came to them and offered them something to smoke. They alleged that they took it out of fear of the man and smoked it. After smoking it, Ms Malalane said that the girls further told her that they felt like they were going to pass out and when they had woken from their intoxication, they realised that they had been raped.
It was around 21:30 and the girls made their way to Vosman Police Station to report the matter. They said that they did not go to the police station sooner because they were scared that the man might find them and hurt them should he discover that they had reported the matter to the police.
Ms Malalane said that she is very saddened by this experience. “Never in my life had I thought I would have to run around police stations because some man raped my child. I am very angry and hurt about this. The girls did not have to go through such a trauma,” said Ms Malalane.
