On July 9 a man was with his friends at a tuck shop in MNS Settlement, when a white Ford Focus stopped at the shop. Its two occupants, dressed in army camouflage, exited the vehicle and held the shop owner and the men at gunpoint.
The two suspects robbed the men of R70 and the tuck shop owner of R700. They then fled in the Ford Focus.
That same day a police constable was out on patrol when he was alerted by a community member of two men dressed in camouflage uniforms who were suspected of robbing the community at gunpoint.
The policeman followed the lead and found the motor vehicle. He saw a man dressed in camouflage and searched him. On the suspect he found a 4.5mm firearm and an empty magazine, the suspect was arrested and charged with being in possession of an unlicensed firearm.
“The suspect that was arrested was not in the SANDF and did not have association with the army. We suspect he simply bought the camouflage clothing from a store,” said Capt Eddie Hall, Witbank Police Communications.
