Still no word on ‘Mr Fix-its’ future

Residents will have to wait patiently until next week to see what the future holds for the city and its administrator, Mr Theo van Vuuren.

Residents will have to wait patiently until next week to see what the future holds for the city and its administrator, Mr Theo van Vuuren.

Mpumalanga Executive Council noted concerns on the future of Emalahleni, which is under administration. They have to now decide whether Van Vuuren will continue as his contract expires at the end of the month.

“Government is not pulling out yet, we are going to make our assessment which will determine if Emalahleni- and also Bushbuckridge municipalities – can now run on their own or whether there is still a need for the administrators,” said Mr Zibonele Mncwango, spokesperson from Mpumalanga Provincial Government’s Office of the Premier.

He said the matter will serve in the next Executive Council meeting that is taking place on Wednesday, August 20.

Van Vuuren was appointed as administrator on April 23 last year when the municipality was on the brink of total collapse.
