Open substation poses a danger

Residents in two streets in Lynnville have been living in danger because of power interruptions, and they blame an open substation.

The open substation is in Zulu Street in Lynnville.

A resident said they had several power interruptions before the start of the cold season in May. The residents suspect that because of the open substations there are a lot of illegal connections in the area.

They also said the substation poses a danger to especially young children.
“We have power cuts since May from about 19:00. We have reported the matter to our councillor, Cllr Thabo Mnisi. We feel that something needs to be done urgently before someone gets hurt,” said the concerned resident.

Some years ago three children were severely burned when they were playing in an open substation similar to the one in Lynnville. It was suspected that children might have poked something in the substation.

Some children were found playing a few metres away from the open substation.
“Not only do the interruptions interfere with our daily lives, but the substation poses danger to us all,” ended the resident.
