Trio puts Kopanang on the map

Three pupils from Kopanang are on top of the world after singing their way to a national music competition.

Karabo Ratsiane, Lebogang Mokoena and Xolani Phiri have made the school proud. Korabo is a solo tenor, while Lebogang and Xolani are a duet and Lebogang is also solo soprano. They have received several trophies on their way to the top.

Their journey to the top started in April during the local school competition. Karabo was first in the competition, while the two others were second.

During the regional competition held in Ogies, Karabo received second place, while Lebogang (solo soprano) as well as the duet were first. In the provincial competition held in Middelburg Banquet Hall, Karabo was first yet again, while the duet received second place.
The trio then went to represent the province in the national finals held at the ICC Hall in Durban in July. Karobo was second, beating the other seven provinces.

The three singers were encouraged, motivated and supported by their music teachers.
The music teachers hired experts in opera music to assist the choristers. One of the teachers Mrs J. Makwakwa has spoken with the CEO of Izithethe Music School to register the choristers.

Principal of the school Mr O. Usinga thanked all the stakeholders who were involved in making sure that the choristers reached the top.
He said they will always aim to be the number one in the circuit. He thanked everybody from the teachers, parents, chairperson of the school governing body and the circuit manager.

“We are aiming for a 100% pass rate in matric. We aim to stay on top and be a good example to other schools.”
