eMalahleni prepare for load shedding but not today says Eskom

The big question on everyone’s lips is why does eMalahleni have to be apart of the outage effecting the country at the moment.

The main reason behind the load shedding in eMalahleni is because a coal storing silo at Majuba Power Station in Mpumalanga collapsed on Sunday, November 2.
“The silo ruptured or cracked and so employees were evacuated… and it just collapsed,” said Andrew Etzinger, Eskom spokesperson.

A stage 2 load shedding requires users to reduce electricity demand by 2000 Mega Watts. Eskom’s total capacity is around 43 000Mega Watts.
In short it means if residents  reduce the demand of electricity on the grid, the need for load shedding will be minimised.

For example switch off; pool pumps, geysers, air conditioners and during  peak times residents should reduce their power demand within the household.

This is the load shedding schedule applicable every day, until the emergency is lifted by Eskom.

From the Administrator Theo van Vuuren-
Please Note: treat all areas as life the whole time.
a) Some overlaps can take place as teams need to reset brakers should these trip on restoring power and should there have been any vandalism.
b) Also note that the normal problems we are experiencing on a daily basis may also occur which require the teams to repair areas. Any routine work will as far as possible be scheduled in the times an area is already off.
c) For some reason Ogies and Phola are not affected.
d) The above will impact on water supply to any area we need to pump to, and this is especially affected by the power supply to Zone 2 (the Doornpoort station) which affects the pumping from the dam to the purification works as well as to point B. With 7.5 hours interruption on that we will potentially be running 30% short on our capacity to provide water. I will try to get a schedule from the water team on the impact this may have on areas.

Media reports on Monday, November 3 power utility Eskom said there will be no planned load shedding outages during the day.  Eskom Spokesperson Andrew Etzinger says the power utility has managed to bring in coal conveyers to assist the collapsed silo at Majuba power plant in Mpumalanga.
