They said four rapes were reported to them over the weekend and all victims are aged between 16 and 22. All the cases occurred on Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 01:00 to 05:00 while the victims were walking on the streets allegedly under liquor influence. The police reported that there were liquor outlets mentioned in Ackerville as well as in Vosman Extension 17 where the women were enjoying themselves, and it was difficult to obtain statement on what happened.
“In Extension 11 a while VW Polo was driving along the streets and the driver forced one of the women into the car. She was taken to a secluded spot where she was allegedly raped,” said a statement from the police.
Four robberies were reported and occurred between 00:00 and 05:00 in Hlanikahle Extension 2 closer to liquor outlets. Three suspects were involved and had a firearm.
A 22-year-old man reported that he was cornered by three unknown men while he was on his way from a tavern and one pointed a firearm at him. They took his wallet with cash and a cell phone. Community members saw what was happening and gave chase, two of the trio were arrested after being found with a toy gun and charged with armed robbery.
“Reject and report stolen goods, be part of a crime free area, report any crime,” reads a statement from the police.
