Two injured in late-night Klarinet street shooting

SAPS advises the public to avoid walking at night and to use busy, well-lit streets if they really have to walk.

Witbank SAPS has launched an investigation following a late-night shooting in Klarinet that left two men injured on September 26.

According to police, an officer on duty responded to the incident around 22:40.

Upon arrival, he interviewed a witness who reported being awakened by gunshots outside her home.

The woman told the police that when she stepped outside to check what was happening, she found a man lying in the street with a gunshot wound to his stomach.

Shortly afterwards, she reportedly saw another man wrapping his hand with a T-shirt, who also claimed that a man had shot him while he was walking along the street.

Both victims were rushed to the hospital for medical attention.

The shooter remains unknown, and police investigations are continuing.

SAPS tips to stay safe at night:

  • Never walk around alone at night if you can avoid it; always try to travel in a group.
  • Stick to busy, well-lit streets and avoid shortcuts through unlit parks, dark alleys, or deserted areas.
  • Do not wear earphones or keep your eyes glued to your phone, as you need to hear and see what is happening around you.
  • Avoid displaying expensive jewellery, mobile phones, or large amounts of cash.
  • If a situation or person feels wrong or suspicious, change direction or head immediately into a busy, well-lit shop or public venue.
