Sewerage problem for the whole year

What Ms T.Shabangu remembers well is that she has had sewage problem for the past year.

Shabangu said she has reported the problem several times at the municipality and they have come and went away, without the issue being fixed.
“This sewarage in my yard had affected my life in many ways. I used to have a garden in my yard and now my plants had died. We have to make sure that we do not hang the washing for a long time because it ends up smelling bad.

We have to close windows because of the smell coming from the sewage. I have to keep an eye on the children whenever they come for a visit. The brick wall is also collapsing because of the sewage,” said Shabangu.
Shabangu said even though she is a member of the committee, it does not make matters easy. She said the last time municipal workers came, they promised that they would be coming back but they did not return. She said at one point they said the sewerage needed special tools to be fixed.

Ward Councillor Thabo Mnisi confirmed that he was aware of the problem and has reported the matter. He said the workers have said they needed to do maintenance, because they have encountered the same problem and that means they needed to change the pipes.
“They have put requisites in for the pipes and after that it will be fixed,” said Cllr Mnisi.
