Jan Mandlen, who was arrested in 2014 for the crime, was found guilty and sentenced to R3 000 fine or six months’ imprisonment, half of which has been suspended for five years. He was also declared unfit to carry a firearm.
Alfred Mutalo, who has two charges against him trespassing and illegal immigration, appeared in court. He will remain in incarceration until May 12 for his trial.
A suspect appeared in court to set a trial date for later this year. He was arrested in November on three charges. These charges are Tampering with Service Lines, theft, and malicious damage to property. The suspect was allegedly caught stealing copper cables in Vosman.
Two theft cases also saw convictions. The accused in both cases received R2000 fine or four months imprisonment that was suspended for five years. Both of them were declared unfit to carry a firearm.
D Court was also active on May 4. Several theft cases were handled. Many of them were initial hearing and they received trial dates for later in the month. Haliseni Ganyene pleaded guilty for theft. He received a sentence of three months imprisonment or a R500 fine that was also suspended for five years. A suspect accused of being in possession of counterfeit goods was moved from D Court back to B Court as the investigation is still ongoing, however the accused is still in custody while awaiting his trial.
