Missing pupils found
For both Jundre Hattingh (15) and Johan Westerman (16) parents’ it was such a big relief when their cell phones rang early on Thursday morning with the news that their children had been found.
On May 14, nearly 19 hours after they went missing, they were found in Culemburg Street when a resident in the area noticed the teenagers walking in the street together.
She immediately stopped them, placed them in her vehicle, and let everyone know that she had them on the Zello Witbank 911 channel.
A response team went out to the scene to assist, while their parents and Langamed Emergency Services were contacted.
A trauma counsellor first spoke to Jundre and Johan in a vehicle to try identify what the situation was.
Jundre’s parents, exhausted physically and emotionally, climbed out of their vehicle just wanting to see their daughter.
Jundre and Johan then drove with Witbank 911, first they were taken to the place where they slept on Wednesday night, May 13 when they went missing.
They overnighted on an old building site with a half built home on it in Den Haag Street.
From there Johan was taken to his home in Delft Street and Jundre’s parents fetched her from his home.
Jundre and Johan did not return home after school on Wednesday. They were last seen walking in the direction of Christaan de Wet Street.
By 17:00 they were last seen at McDonald’s, Highveld Mall together.
Three units from Witbank 911 spent the night searching for Jundre and Johan around eMalahleni.
