Candice is making a big impact on the movie world

One young woman from eMalahleni is making a big impression on the movie industry, as she’s starring in a new movie to hit the cinemas on Friday.

Candice Weber, who is now 24 years old, is loving every moment of the career choice she made.
Candice went to Laerskool Kragbron, then to St Thomas Aquinas to do her high school subjects and matriculated in 2008.

From there she went to the University of Pretoria and obtained her BA (Honours) degree in Drama.
‘Seun’ is the first commercial feature film she has acted in.
“But I have also done short and feature film projects on a smaller scale,” said Candice.
Candice was asked to explain a bit about the movie ‘Seun’. It is set in South Africa in 1981 when young men were required to do conscription, which is compulsory military service for the country after they have finished school.
The story is about Paul du Toit (Deanre Reiners), a boy who just matriculated and has to go to the army after the holiday. He spends all his time with their neighbour’s daughter Annamarie (Candice Weber) and the two of them share a romantic December holiday together.

However, things change drastically for both of them when a fatal bombing at the border causes Paul to be paralyzed for the rest of his life. The story continues with everybody, including Paul’s parents (Elzette Maarschalk and Chris de Clerq), adjusting to their new life.
“I had a lot of fun on set. We shot it in the Karoo so being so far away from home makes it easier for you to create a new world for yourself and your character,” said Candice with a laugh.

For Candice it’s honestly been one of the best acting experiences because she got to work with the most incredible people, especially the director Darrell James Roodt and Producer Christianne Bennetto, who is now one of Candice’s closest friends, also grew up in eMalahleni.
Her fellow cast members were just as incredible to work with because everyone was very supportive and handled the subject matter with compassion and empathy.

When Candice was asked if the kissing scenes in movies are real, she just laughed and said it’s her favourite question.
“Honestly, the kissing is real (PG rated though) but the emotional connection that you would have if, for instance, you were kissing your loved one, is not. It’s our job to make it look real and fortunately both Deanre and I respected each other and our craft so much that the kissing scenes were handled very professionally,” explained Candice.
Candice would like to be working on many different film and television projects and hopefully living and working in America.

“If it is God’s will, I would love to have a family of my own one day too. I definitely want to be involved in any way possible in making a positive difference in the world and hope to inspire other people to believe in themselves and reach for their dreams,” said Candice.
Candice has also played in ‘Treurgrond’ which is currently showing in cinemas and she can also be seen in ‘Trouvoete’ which releases in December.
“I have a few potential film projects lined up that are in the planning phase too,” continued Candice.
‘Seun’ releases on Friday, June 12 at selected cinemas like Menlyn and Brooklyn Mall.
“Imagine with all your mind, believe with all your heart, achieve with all your might,” is Candice’s motto in life.
Candice is a child cancer survivor, which has always made her grateful for the gift of life.

“I am so privileged to be able to do what I love and it’s because of the love and support of my amazing parents Kevin and Marianne and my sister, Nicole that I am able to do it,” said Candice.
