In Mopanie Street, Tasbet Park, apparently there was a problem with a water pipe since May 31 and up to date they still have not had water.
“We have phoned the municipality various times and they could not give us feedback on when the problem would be solved,” said Mr Johan Brits.
Brits, who lives in Mopanie Street, said that his neighbour across the road has water but his side of the road does not.
“How do they expect people to live without water, do they have the right to leave these people for so long without water?” continued Brits.
All that the residents know is that a pipeline needs to be replaced and there is no time frame.
For the past week a truck has been delivering water.
“I am tired of this town as you can’t even drink this water in eMalahleni, you need to buy water to drink. I mean why do we pay our water and lights accounts for the month if you don’t have water for nine days and if you do, you can’t drink the water,” said Brits.
For residents in Arabella Estate Ben Fleur water went off on Wednesday, June 3 and returned on Saturday, June 6 in the evening.
Then on Sunday night, June 7 the water went off once again and by Monday it was still not on.
“I have been trying to find out what the problem is and I have been getting some many different answers and everyone is shifting the blame. I have been told it’s because of load shedding and the reservoirs are not filling up,” said a resident.
At Brownie Street reservoir tankers have been filling up their trucks with water and residents in the area often do not have water.
On Theo van Vuuren’s Facebook page he said he is aware of the water outage due to low reservoir levels; unfortunately he was unable to give a time estimate until the levels increase.
There appears to be a problem with the valves at Bankenveld and Ben Fleur Extension 3, the team is investigating further.
There is a burst pipe affecting Mopanie and Tambotie streets, Tasbet Park as well as a problem with the valves.
eMalahleni residents were asked on Facebook to report areas that have not had water for more than four days and the following responses were received:
“Clewer 80 percent of the time no water (four/five days of the week no water) been going on for months now, it’s on for just a few hours and then it’s off again, municipality isn’t sending water trucks.”
”Mopanie Street in Tasbet Park was off for a week due to sewerage problem, (there was sewerage in the clean water), now it’s been off again for 10 to 13 days.”
”Churchill Street has been without water for two days, Shakespeare Street, every day it goes on and off this has been going on for two weeks.”
”Kamhluswa four days no water and Extension 12 poor water pressure for almost a month now, Klarinet business area every day no water.”
