Surveillance footage new insight into Steven’s death
The case relating to the mysterious death of Mr Steven Roux (25) is still open and ongoing as new evidence has emerged.
A surveillance camera that is situated between the two houses near the open field in Brakpan where his body was found, revealed new evidence to this case and has opened so many more possible leads to what exactly happened to Roux.
At 02:45 on the morning of June 6 a white vehicle is seen pulling up into the field and what seems to be Roux was dropped off.
“We have given all this information to the police and they are working on the case at the moment,” said Ms Michelle Bekker, Roux’s sister.
On her Facebook page she said; “I miss you so damn much and I promise I won’t stop until I find out every single detail of what happened to you, I promise I won’t stop. And whoever had a part in your death, I will make sure they go to jail. I love you so much,” said Bekker.
On Friday, June 26 Roux’s funeral was held from NG Kerk Kriel, family and friends all wore orange.
“We did it like this as orange will be a symbol for recovering drug addicts and because he died on the Friday and his funeral took place on Friday we have called it the Real Orange Friday,” said Bekker.
White balloons were released at the funeral and the white dove Bekker bought could not be released so Bekker will be raising it and then she will give the dove to her mother, Ms Christine Haskins.
Roux went to Oorwinnaars Middelburg on May 5 as he was addicted to Heroin and he wanted to sort his life out and to get clean.
At the centre, Roux was doing well with his recovery and he was tested on a regular basis and his tests came back clean.
“Once the children are clean they are sent to Bread of Life in Hazyview were more hands-on work is done with them, said Ms Elna Lewis from the Oorwinnaars Centre.
While Roux was there he decided to leave the Rehab and they bought him a ticket to Springs.
“He made it clear that he wanted to go to his sister and not to his mother in Ga-Nala,” said Lewis.
Once he boarded the bus from Hazyview heading towards Springs on June 4, it’s unclear what happened afterwards until his body was discovered on June 6 in a open field in Brakpan.
“He had a great personality, I really started to love him and his death is devastating and heartbreaking news for us,” continued Lewis.
The results from the first autopsy said he died of double pneumonia.
This left many unanswered questions for Bekker and Haskins.
So they asked for a second autopsy to be done and the results are still pending.
