A family staying in Die Heuwel has been struggling with a blocked municipal drain for more than a month leading to blocked toilets and drains in their house not to mention the terrible smell and the foaming swamp in their yard as sewerage spews from the manhole.

The situation is concerning considering the couple’s young daughter is constantly being exposed to bacteria from the manhole and blocked toilets. The family contacted the municipality on October 29 when the problem started. On November 13 the municipality apparently dispatched someone to inspect the problem.

The official told the family that it seems to be a blockage of the sewerage drain running underneath the street. However since then they have not returned to unblock the drain nor has the family heard anything back from the municipality.

On November 17 and then again on November 24 they reached out to Theo Van Vuuren on his Facebook page for help. He did contact them via Facebook however on December 14 when the family came to the Witbank News out of desperation nothing has been done.

The municipality has been contacted for comment however no reply has been received as of yet.
