Witbank College students setting the record straight
While some universities and colleges in the country are engulfed in students protest, the South African Student Congress (Sasco) at Witbank College stated that all is well at their college.

While some universities and colleges in the country are engulfed in students protest, the South African Student Congress (Sasco) at Witbank College stated that all is well at their college.
Since last year when the students were involved in the #FeesMustFall campaign a lot has taken place since then.

Sasco members stated that an opposition student organisation gave the wrong information to the students saying that National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) bursary money has been misused by the college management. It is said that they further influenced the students to say at home from last Monday, (January 18) claiming that they are fighting for them to have a free education.
“We want to state it clearly that Sasco under the leading party which is the ANC, is the one that fought for free education. Sasco also ensured that there is a new building at the college to accommodate more students on the campus. We further fought for a mobile clinic, a cafeteria and purified water and other things which are in the process of being implemented.”

Sasco also said that they stand for every student in the campus regardless of their background. They stated that as the leading party in the schools they are the ones taking care of the students in the Nkangala region. They further pointed out that they have the right tools to help every student and they always engage with college management when they encounter problems.
“We have to be intellectual about it because college management are intellectual people. We cannot be seen vandalising the property of the college. We are busy helping students with their registrations. If we came across any challenges we intervene not like other student organisations acting like hooligans vandalising our school property. We always do something that will benefit the students not as a show off.”

Sasco further assured the students that they will always show leadership in doing things and handling any situation in a correct manner and that they will always make the management listen to their demands.
“As Sasco we will always continue to put the needs of the students first and anything that will benefit them.”
