He placed second during the heats and came first in the finals that made him to qualify to represent the province in the national championships.

Hope Mdluli was accidentally picked by his coach to come for training after seeing that he has the body of an athlete.

Hope showed that he was made to challenge the best sprinters in the local schools by winning the 100m at the school circuit meeting held at Laerskool Klipfontein in February and again during the sub-circuit held at the Laerskool Kragbron coming second and winning a silver medal. In the sub district he was again placed second on February 20.

During the regional championships, held at Secunda Stadium on February 27 he was placed second during the heats and came first in the finals that made him to qualify to represent the province in the national championships. Hope left on Wednesday, March 9 for Port Elizabeth to represent the province. The championships were held from March 10 till 12.

“The school is very proud about his achievements as he is the first athlete to qualify for the national championships in any sporting code. We wish him well in the national championships.
