Rumble strips- a hassle or a blessing?
After many accidents and complaints, the Emalahleni Local Municipality decided to place rumble strips in OR Tambo Street.

After many accidents and complaints, the Emalahleni Local Municipality decided to place rumble strips in OR Tambo Street. This road, known to many as ‘road of the death’ has been the cause of many accidents caused by the alledged speeding of motorists. In previous articles, many suggestions has been made to the municipality about making the road safer for motorists.

The rumble strips placed in OR Tambo Street last week are the cause of many complaints.
“Following the installation of rumble strips on the road last week, complaints were received that it affects some people negatively. It is alleged that the noise caused with vehicles passing over it interferes with people while sleeping. The municipality will investigate this as well as whether the rumble strips actually assist in warning people to slow down and in so doing, prevent accidents at the curve. Although it is too early to say. Some arguments are that the rumble strips are too low to make a real difference. The municipality is monitoring the situation. A report also came in that some of the strips have been broken and this is receiving attention,” Mr Theo van Vuuren, Municipal Manager said on Tuesday.
