SBV trial postponed

The SBV robbery trial of 2014 has been postponed until the second quarter of 2017.

The SBV robbery trial of 2014 has been postponed until the second quarter of 2017.

A number of state witnesses are expected to be called to the stand at the Middelburg High Court come 2017 when the SBV trial resumes on April 18.

Fundamental witnesses have been called to the stand including Ms Gail Benade, former fiancé to one of the accused. Her testimony, along with Ms Gift Nkosi set the stage for the state’s case against the remaining 15 accused.

The case against Mr Richard Ngomane was provisionally withdrawn as he had no involvement in the SBV robbery that took place on April 27, 2014 in which more than R104-million was taken from the SBV holdings in eMalahleni.

Police members, including arresting officers and investigating officers were also called to the stand as the trial continued on a near daily basis until December 13 when Judge Bert Bam postponed the trial for April 18, 2017.
