Five charged for conspiracy to murder

Members of the Hawks recently reported that they are on course investigating a case of conspiracy to murder.

They reported that on Thursday, January 12 at about 02:00 in the morning members of the Hawks, Secunda Organised Crime Investigation, SANEB, CIG Secunda, Emzinoni detectives and firearm Unit arrested five suspects between the ages of 33 and 48 for conspiracy to murder.

One suspect amongst the five was found in possession of an unlicensed firearm from which the serial numbers were erased. It is alleged that the suspects were staying in a farm with a white farmer who later requested them to move out from the farm whereby the suspects refused and a court order was issued against them.

Last year, 2016, the suspects planned to murder the victim who ran to the police to lay a charge. The case was opened and investigation led to the arrest of the five. A 33-year-old suspect who was found in possession of an unlicensed firearm which was planned to be used to commit the murder appeared at Witbank Magistrate Court on Thursday, January 12 and he also joined the four in court at Bethal the following day Friday, January 13 facing the charge of conspiracy to murder.

The five suspects after their appearance at Bethal Magistrate Court for conspiracy to commit murder and possession of an unlicensed firearm, out of two suspects Bonginkosi Excellent Mnisi (33) and Dumisani Sambo (46) were denied bail and remained in custody. The third suspect Nomalanga Khumalo(49) a female was granted a R30 000 bail while the
Case was withdrawn against the other two. The three suspects including the female who failed to bail herself out will remain in custody and will appear again on Thursday, January 19 when the two will be appearing for formal bail application.

The investigation is still ongoing according to the Hawks.
