Bus burned on the N4 Highway

The bus was badly burnt but no injuries were reported to either the driver or the passengers

People driving to work in the early hours were shocked at the sight of a burning bus on the N4 highway.

The incident happened on Thursday, April 13 at about 06:00.

At first it was not clear why the Mphakathi bus was left burning just after passing the KG Mall near Vosman. While some attributed this action to the bus strike, others said it had to do with people seeking employment at Kusile Power Station.

The bus was badly burned but no injuries were reported to either the driver or the passengers. The highway remained open for road users.

According to the Vosman police the driver said the bus was carrying workers to Kusile Power Station. The police were informed that a group of about 50 people had brought the bus to a halt and ordered the passengers out, then proceeded to set the bus alight.

Other bus companies were affected as well. In Ferrobank and some areas of Vosman, busses could not pick up workers going to work. The area was later patrolled by the police and all roads were accessible with no protestors to be seen.

No arrests were reported by the police.
