Furry lives lost, motorcycle stolen

The theft of Louw’s motorcycle came at another price, three of his landlord’s dogs had been poisoned that same night.

“I heard a noise around 10 that night,” said Mr Cornelius Louw, whose motorcycle was stolen.

The motorcycle theft took place on the evening of April 23.

“The locks to the gate had been broken and the gate was lifted off the track,” said Louw as he recalled waking up to find that his motorcycle, a Honda E-Storm, was stolen.

“They were lying there dead, one was a Boxer the other a mixed breed of sorts. I can’t recall the last dog’s breed,” he said.

Ms Maureen Scheepers issued a warning to the public on social media on Monday, May 1 stating that there were numerous reports of dogs being poisoned in different areas of eMalahleni.

“Please check your yard for any foreign plastic bags/meat. Should you find anything please report it so we may be informed on the areas targeted by criminal activity,” she said.

She urged the community to contact herself on 082 565 6770 or Mr David Wessels on 072 777 3012. Alternatively they can be reached on the SACCW open channel on ZELLO.

Sgt David Ratau, Witbank Police communications liaison requests the community to come forward and report all cases of criminal activity, including dog poisonings (malicious damage to property).

“Residents should check their yard to look for anything suspicious and are warned not to handle tainted meat with their bare hands,” said Sgt Ratau.

The owner of the dogs, Mr Peet Boshoff could not be contacted for comment regarding the theft of the motorcycle and the death of his dogs.
