A truck was recovered the same night after it was hijacked in the vicinity of the toll gate.
On June 21 Mr Norman Lerole (58) was hijacked while driving along the N4 Highway.
He had just passed the toll gate when he was stopped by a Nissan bakkie at about 17:45. The bakkie was fitted with a blue light.
He brought the truck to a stop and was approached by four men, one of which was armed.
The one in possession of the firearm ordered Lerole to the rear of the truck’s cabin, his shoelaces were removed and his hands and feet were bound.
One of the men started the truck up and they drove into Gauteng where they dropped the driver off along the R554 close to Windmill Park.
The robbers stole the drivers’ bankcards and the R300 he had on his person. They released him into the field and drove off with the truck.
Lerole was able to seek help from a nearby security guard stationed on the Trichard Road .
Mr Markus Momberg, Lerole’s site manager, was contacted for comment and reported that Lerole is back on duty and is doing well.
“Luckily he wasn’t seriously harmed, they were just after the truck,” he said.
“The truck was recovered that evening around 12:00 near Vosloorus, the tracking company informed us that they had tracked down the vehicle,” he added.
Capt Eddie Hall, Witbank Police communications liaison advises drivers not to stop along the highway, but to rather seek a place of safety or stop at the nearest police station.
