For the Van der Gryp family, a quick stop to get spares ended in disdain.

For the Van der Gryp family, a quick stop to get spares ended in disdain.

On Tuesday, July 11, Ms Bernadette van der Gryp went to Midas to pick up some spares for the business.

“I wasn’t even in 10 minutes when security came running in and informed me that my car had been stolen,” she said.

Van der Gryp parked her white Mazda 323 in the parking area and stepped into the store. The car guard on duty only managed to get a glimpse of the car that was driven by the suspects.

“The guard told me it was a black Ford Fiesta with a GP license plate,” she said.

She added that there was a lot of stuff in her car at the time it was stolen, including her child’s clothes and birth certificate, not to mention the house keys.

Her white Mazda 323 1600 is circulated with registration number CFP281MP.

In another reported incident, a 45-year-old man’s Toyota Tazz was stolen from the parking area near Highveld Mall.
Mr Sheridan Gower had parked his vehicle at about 07:55 on the morning of July 11 and returned that afternoon to where his vehicle had been parked only to find that it had been stolen.

A white Mazda 323 was stolen from the parking lot situated in Klipfontein.

Another vehicle theft occurred on July 15 at about 19:45. Mr Fufu Khumalo parked his vehicle, a white Toyota Hilux bakkie, at his house and later that evening found that his bakkie had been stolen.

A woman was caught off guard when a man contacted her in regards to the sale of her Volkswagen Golf.
He spoke with the woman asking where she lived as he wanted to come by and test drive the vehicle.

He visited her on Sunday, July 9 at about 15:00 and handed her a copy of his identity document before taking the car for a drive, the woman waited patiently for the man to return, which he never did.

“We advise the community not to leave their valuables in their vehicles, also not to allow someone to drive their vehicle without supervision. Criminals will try anything so be vigilant and don’t be taken for a fool,” said Capt Eddie Hall, Witbank Police communications.
