Mr Charles Christopher Hlatshwayo was nearly killed just because he had stopped to buy fries.

Hlatshwayo stopped at a four-way stop in Hlalanikahle Extension 4 (Phase 4) to buy slap chips. After buying the chips he went back to his car, but before he could drive away he was surprised by two unknown suspects driving a white Ford Ranger with no registration.

One of the suspects had a firearm. They ordered him to sit between the two of them and one of them drove off.

They took cash from him and ordered him to call his father to give them money. They drove with him into the bushes and than they took his wallet and phone.

He was then shot and dropped into a ditch, after which his assailants drove off in his bakkie.

Hlatshwayo crawled to the road looking for help but he was not helped until the next morning when he was found by a local resident who called his father and he was taken to hospital.

The value of the vehicle is R500 000 and his cell phone is worth is R200. His licence was also stolen.

No one has been arrested and police are investigating a case of armed robbery and attempted murder.
