Extremely high fire conditions expected in the Northern interior of Mpumalanga
This week alone, WoF in Mpumalanga has recorded five fires which have been successfully contained and mop-up operations presently underway, from one fire in the Highveld that burned overnight.

With just under a week remaining for the official closing of the 2017 winter fire season, the South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued a warning for extremely high fire conditions in the northern interior of Mpumalanga, including the Kruger National Park and the Limpopo province.

As such, the Department of Environmental Affairs’ Working on Fire (WoF) programme in Mpumalanga, together with various Fire Protection Associations (FPAs) have placed fire-fighters on standby operation and are ready to offer additional ground and aerial fire fighting support.

“We dispatched a team on October 26, comprising of about 20 fire-fighters to assist with suppressing a fire on privately owned land in Bushbuckridge, just outside Nelspruit,” said Lebogang Maseko, WoF provincial spokesperson.

“Although it is not clear what started the fire as yet, our team has been battling the blaze for over two hours now,” Maseko added.
