Black Friday is a day full of special deals and heavy discounts, it is considered the kickoff of the holiday shopping season but it was not a joyous one for one man.
He was arrested and now faces charges of being in possession of truck hijacking tools and truck hijacking.
On Thursday, November 23 around 03:30 the man and four other suspects hijacked a truck in Alberton.
Investigations conducted by the Witbank Trio-Task Team led to the arrest of one of the suspects in eMalahleni.
The arrest was made on Friday, November 24.
The accused made his first appearance at the Witbank Magistrate Court on Monday, November 27.
The other four suspects are still on the run and have not yet been arrested.
Another truck-hijacking incident took place on Saturday, November 25 around 20:50. A 44-year-old man was driving a truck with a trailer travelling to his company situated in eMalahleni.
He was hijacked by five suspects who were driving a Volkswagen Polo with a blue light on.
The suspect put the 44-year-old in their Polo and left him at Devon (a settlement in Sedibeng District Municipality, Gauteng).
The truck was recovered in Vereeniging but the diesel was drained.
Time and time again Witbank Police spokesperson Capt Eddie Hall warns truck drivers to be wary of unmarked vehicles as they are bogus. Official’s travelling in such vehicles are fake officials.
“An officer must be in full uniform and a clearly marked vehicle. If you are in that situation rather drive to the nearest safe place like the police station for help. You can also call the police for back-up,” said Capt Hall.
