H&M clothing stores sincerely apologise

The past weekend there has been a huge international backlash over the H&M clothing stores advert

The past weekend there has been a huge international backlash over the H&M clothing stores advert, which features a black child model wearing a hoodie with “coolest monkey in the jungle” written on it.

On January 13 the racism scandal as they call it, broke out nation wide at all the Swedish company’s outlets. As some of the stores in Gauteng were vandalised by EFF party members, eMalahleni’s H&M store in Highveld mall closed their doors until further notice.

“We sincerely apologise for offending people with this image of a printed hooded top,” the company said in a statement.

The hooded top was removed from all online channels and will not be for sale in South Africa or the United States.

The doors of the Swedish clothing company, H&M in Highveld Mall will be closed until further notice. On January 13 a huge racism protest broke out at numerous H&M outlets nationwide.

Highveld Mall complied with the national instruction from H&M head office on January 13, to close stores and issue the national apology on the shop front.

No unrest was reported at Highveld Mall as the situation is being closely monitored by both Highveld Mall security and the South African Community Crime Watch (SACCW).

“We believe in diversity and inclusion in all that we do and will be reviewing all our internal policies accordingly to avoid any future issues,” the management concluded.
