Earlier the day on Sunday, May 6 a truck fell over and spilled a load of coal in the road. It is alleged that no proper clean-up procedures were followed and the remaining coal caused another accident later that same evening.

It is believed that the driver of the car didn’t see the coal and crashed into the remaining pile.

“A call came through on the SACCW (South African Community Crime Watch) open channel on Zello of a second motor vehicle accident where the driver was injured after driving into the coal of an earlier motor vehicle accident where proper clean-up procedures were not followed,” stated Maureen Scheepers Operations Coordinator at SACCW Witbank.

After numerous calls to arrange a clean up of the area to ensure public safety, SACCW responders decided to drive out to the location and handle the clean up of the area themselves. Members from the SACCW gave up their own family time to go and clean up the road.

“We thank each and every responder that went out to ensure that this road is safe for public use. A special thank you to Thwaites Engineering for the extra hands that they provided for the clean up. Well done to all involved,” concluded Maureen Scheepers.

The injured driver could not be reached for feedback before the time of print.
