After two years of begging the municipality to fix Avril Street, the worst has happened.
In less than a week seven vehicles, including a municipal bakkie got stuck in a huge pothole in Avril Street.

The pothole that stretches over the width of the road literally swallowed the vehicles as they tried to drive through it and matters are worsened by water leaks.

“I dropped the children at school this morning and on my way back I got stuck in the pothole. Luckily there is not much damage to my vehicle,” Mr Hendry Elkins said.

He said Avril Street’s tar washed away the evening of March 18, 2016 when the Blancheville Bridge washed away after heavy rainfall.
Ms Zano Kubeka said driving out of her driveway every morning is a real challenge.
“I don’t know when my car will be stuck in the mud. I have reported this mess to the municipality on several occasions,” she said.

Mr Hendry Elkins got stuck in Avril Street’s pothole on Monday, May 14.
The municipality was contacted on Monday, May 14 to put barrier tape around the hole to warn motorists not to drive there. They too got stuck in the pothole.
“We have previously patched that area but owing to persistent water leaks that area has been affected again. We have spoken to our water department to fix the leaks, and once that has been done, we will have to do a full reconstruction because of the extensive damage on the street. Our roads department has requested that a budget be set aside for reconstruction. Once there is approval and allocation of budget we will start with the job,” Mr Kingdom Mabuza, municipal spokesperson said.
