A man who sustained a gun shot wound to his upper leg received help 12 hours after an attack inside his house.

A man who sustained a gun shot wound to his upper leg received help 12 hours after an attack inside his house.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Saturday morning, June 16 at approximately 02:00 in Voortrekker Street.
Mr Marthinus Senekal was all alone on Friday, June 15.

His neighbour came home from work and noticed that Senekal’s vehicles were parked in the driveway and he knew that Senekal was at home.
The following day the neighbour noticed that there were two vehicles parked inside the driveway.

On Saturday afternoon the neighbour went outside and decided to walk around to see where Senekal was.
When he approached the front door he noticed that the door was standing wide open and when he looked around the corner he saw broken glass lying in the sand.

The neighbour went inside where he found Senekal in a pool of blood.

It’s alleged that the suspect/s broke into the house at approximately 02:00. Senekal was held at gun point and tied up with cable ties.
While Senekal was in the house tied up, it’s alleged that the suspect with the gun tried to shoot him in the head, but as the suspect pulled the trigger Senekal lifted his legs up and the bullet hit him in the buttock area.

Due to the gun shot Senekal sustained a femur fracture.

The suspects then took Senekal’s cell phone and various other items from the house and left the scene.
All Senekal could do was lie in the room in excruciating pain and bleed profusely and wait for someone to find him.

“Even if he tried to scream for help I would have not heard him as the houses are so far apart and where he was lying was further from my house,” said the neighbour.

Members from South Africa Community Crime Watch (SACCW) responded to the call and they called the necessary authorities for help on scene.

Once the police arrived on scene they started their investigation.

ER24 arrived on scene, they managed to stabilize Senekal who was taken to eMalahleni Private Hospital and he was later transferred to another hospital.
