Emalahleni Local Municipality is in shock after Eskom sided with the Save Emalahleni Action Group during last week’s court hearing.
The application to compel provincial and national government to intervene in the municipality’s affairs was heard on June 21.
“We are taken aback by Eskom position since they are active participants of the Inter Ministerial Task Team which is working on finding solutions for all municipalities which owe Eskom. Whatever opinion they have about Emalahleni Local Municipality or any other municipality they can best express it in that task team,” said Mr Kingdom Mabuza, municipal spokesperson.

He said they choose to reserve their opinion about Eskom’s decision to side with Save Emalahleni while they have their recovery plan, and they both are participants in the task team.
“Eskom and Save Emalahleni are also fully aware of the challenge we face in relation to low payment levels. But we will raise all these issues in court,” Mabuza said.
The case was postponed to October 9 to 11.
