
Within a week 18 homes in eMalahleni were broken into and the suspects got away with various different items.
Between Saturday, July 7 and Sunday, July 8, Mr Solomon Mkhonto alleged that he left his house in Die Heuwel and everything was locked up.
When he arrived back home on Sunday at approximately 17:45, he noticed that the main gate was not working and had been opened.
Mkhonto knew something was wrong, so he walked into the house and noticed he had been broken into. Various items were stolen from his house, such as the microwave, kettle, photocopy machine and money.
The second burglary occurred between Saturday, July 7 and Friday, July 6.
Ms Sibongile Khaynye alleged that she left her house at approximately 20:00 on Friday night and she also left her children inside the house as they were sleeping.
At approximately 06:30 she arrived back home only to find that her house had been broken into. A television and blankets were stolen.
On Friday, July 6 at approximately 21:00 Mr Stephan Schutte alleged that he went to sleep. Then at 00:09 in the early hours of the morning he received a phone call from the security company that a break in had just occurred at his house.
Still on Friday, Mr Takawira Mapurisa alleged that he went to bed after watching the soccer world cup game.
He was woken up by his friend who told him that the house was broken into. A door was opened forcefully and a television and jewellery was taken.
When Mr Deslim Richards left his house on Friday at approximately 15:45, he did not expect to return and items from the house to have been taken.

At approximately 20:45 when he returned home, he noticed that the door had been forcefully opened. His television and jewellery had been stolen.
Ms Johanna Janse van Rensburg alleged that her home in Klipfontein was broken into.
Janse van Rensburg left her house and everything was in order, all the doors were locked and windows were closed.
When she returned after a weekend away, she noticed that her front door had been forced open.
As she walked into the house, she noticed that the television had been stolen.
Mr Butumi Ngwana alleged that he left his house and everything was in order. At around 20:00 while he was sitting at a tavern together with his friends drinking beers, he was approached by an unknown woman.
She grabbed Ngwana by his clothes and told him that she was going to burn his house. Before walking away, she slapped him through the face.
When he arrived home from the tavern at approximately 23:00, he noticed his home had been broken into.
On Thursday, July 5, Mr Mepetla Ntuli alleged that he left the premises and all the doors and windows were closed.
When he came back later that day, he noticed that his house had been broken into and various items had been taken.
Mr Mduduzi Nzimande alleged that he was sleeping and he woke up hearing a noise. When he looked again, he noticed that the door was wide open and that his television and laptop had been stolen.
Ms Maritha van der Nest alleged on Wednesday, July 4 when she went to work, everything was in order at home.
When she returned home for lunch she had a look on the CCTV cameras and noticed that suspects had broken into the rooms that she rents out at the back of her house.
Van der Nest then saw that clothing and a lunchbox was taken. Two windows had been broken to gain entry.
On the same day another incident occurred. Mr Jan Pienaar alleged that he left his premises and all the doors and windows were closed.
Later that day when he returned home, he noticed his house had been broken into and tools were stolen.
Ms Anell Brits alleged that while she was sleeping, they broke into her house and found that her cell phone and bicycle had been stolen.
On Tuesday, July 3, four different break-ins occurred where laptops, televisions and clothing were stolen.
At the start of the week on Monday, July 2, two burglaries into residential premises occurred.
Mr Nokulunga Ngcobo alleged that she was at work and she made sure before she left that everything was in order at home.
When she returned later that day, she found that the room had been broken into and various items were stolen.
Later that day Mr Felioe Uinge alleged that he left his premises and he made sure all the doors and windows were closed.
When he returned the following morning, he found that he had been broken into and his bicycle had been stolen.
18 cases of burglary at residential premises have been opened at Witbank Police Station and the cases are being investigated.
“Looking at the house breakings public must join a Community Policing Forum (CPF) and if possible help doing patrols. Then the house owners should ensure that their properties have an alarm and proper fencing around the house. It must be difficult for the suspects to get it.
House owners should have all the information of their domestic worker or gardener. Then we see an increase in house breakings during the winter period, house owners should be more alert during the winter season,” said Captain Eddie Hall, spokesperson from Witbank Police Station
