Ladies, beware of your surroundings and always keep an eye out for anyone suspicious, as women seem to be the target in recent hijackings.
Friday the 13th started badly for a resident of Sky Street when her vehicle was hijacked in front of her home.
Her husband said on Tuesday, July 17, that his wife pulled her goldish-brown Mercedes Benz out of the garage on her way to work.
“She was still in the yard, busy loading everything for the day in the boot. She saw a Toyota Corolla driving past, up the road. Our gate is currently not working with the remote. She opened the gate, pulled out and got out the car to close the gate again. Just then, the same Corolla stopped behind her, but came from the opposite direction as before,” said the victim’s husband.
“The men then demanded her vehicle, when my wife just pleaded for her life. They drove off with both vehicles, one following the other. I assume they went in the mall’s direction but we have not heard anything.”

The victim’s husband added that he was still at home when the incident happened.
“My bedroom from the gate is approximately 16 metres and I did not know that something was wrong until I heard the cries of my wife. I ran outside when she told me what happened. Although we work at the same place, we have a business in town, she leaves the house about an hour before I do,” he added.
He said that the police was contacted and they arrived roughly 15 minutes after they phoned.
“They left with all her belongings in the car. The car is not fitted with a tracker, unfortunately.”
He said that there are no marks on the car, except a small crack in the windscreen.
The vehicle’s number plate is FRF 113 MP.
Another incident took place in the Central Business District on Sunday, July 15.
“My wife stopped at a red light, close to where Morkels used to be. It was just past 17:00 and men approached her, wanting the vehicle. They wanted to remove her from it, but she had her safety belt on, so they just took her belongings. She is okay, but she can not recall whether the men were armed,” said the victim’s husband.
Both cases are being investigated by the Witbank Police.
