A Serval was hit by a car earlier this week in a residential area in eMalahleni, but she is been taken care of by a local vet.

On Monday evening, July 16 at approximately 20:30 a Serval was hit by a car and she was lying in the road near the Duck Pond.

Mr Stanley White from the SACCW Neighbour Watch in Del Judor x4 responded to the call, SAPS were already on scene standing by the cat.

White started phoning around that people in the neighbourhood to bring blankets. The Witbank SPCA was also on scene while they waited for a vet to arrive.

“As I wanted with the cat, I place a blanket over it and spoke to the cat trying to keep it was calm as possible,” said White.


The Serval that was lying in the road on Monday evening, July 16.

Once Dr Nolan Landman arrived on scene he took the cat from White and immediately went to the hospital with the cat where he started treating her.

“I started examining her body for any breaks, once everything seemed fine, I placed her on a drip for the evening,” said Landman.

By Tuesday morning, July 17, she was still very lethargic and it could be due to the severe concussion.

Landman took her out of her enclosure where she is been kept for the meantime until she makes a full recovery, placed her on the table and that is when she started becoming a little more mobile.

“I must say she is doing better today than when I got her, she is a very young cat,” said Landman.

The staff members at Witbank Veterinary Hospital have already given the Serval a name and it’s called Shantine.
