#Shabane murder case postponed yet again

The case was postponed again to Wednesday, October 10.


Officials with the Shabane family during the court appearance of the four accused in the murder and kidnap case held at the Witbank Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, August 14.

Senior public prosecutor Mr Fannie Mavundla explained that the state need more time for the outstanding DNA results and the extradition order.

The case involving Gabsile Shabane (13) and her cousin Nkosikhona Ngwenya (15 months) happened in January this year when they were kidnapped at their home in Hlalanikahle and later found dead.

The four accused: Thokozane Msibi (32), Brilliant Mkhize (26), Knowledge Mhlanga (22) and Themba Thubane (26) stand accused for the kidnap and murder of the two children.

Mr Mavundla further stated he has met with the defence of the accused in the chambers and showed them the proofs of the extradition order and they also confirmed about that and all parties were satisfied with the arrangements.


The four accused in the kidnapping and murder of the Shabane children, Gabsile Shabane (13) and her cousin Nkosikhona Ngwenya (15 months). The four accused are: Thokozane Msibi (32), Brilliant Mkhize (26), Knowledge Mhlanga (22) and Themba Thubane (26).

The Shabane family revealed that they were not satisfied about the slow progress of the case and the strain was taking its toll and they need closure.

Ms Trudy Xhala-Mavimbela, manager of the Transversal Unit in the office of the executive mayor stated they were also in support of the family and that they will organise a march to voice out their frustrations.

She further thanked the support shown by community members in coming to support the family.
