WITBANK NEWS reported on June 22 about the ongoing problem road users of this city faces when driving on open roads.


A previous accident that occurred because of big rocks being placed on open roads in and around the city the past two months.

The article further stated that “road users have to still be on the lookout for big rocks being placed in the road to cause accidents.”

“If you are travelling on the N4 highway coming from either Nelspruit or from Pretoria, anywhere between Witbank and Vosman, please be careful and watch out for big rocks being placed in the road,” the warning on social media stated.

It is alleged that the purpose of this happening is that a certain group of breakdown trucks place the rocks to gain a tow.

On August 16 a meeting took place at Witbank Police Station to discuss this matter.

“The increasing number of these mentioned accidents is becoming a huge problem in our city,” said spokesperson from Witbank Police, Cpt. Eddie Hall.

After investigating some of these accidents, it came to light that robot lights are also being turned into opposite directions to cause accidents.

All towing services committed themselves to assist the police in this matter.

“General Kekana, the Cluster Commander of Witbank warned these criminals who cause these types of accidents on purpose that they will be charged of attempted murder. The public are requested to immediately contact the police station on 0136555052 and inform them of any stones packed in the road or robot lights being tampered with,” Hall concluded.
