Solidarity fights racial discrimination

On Thursday, September 6, members from Solidarity met with members from Eskom at Eskom Park in eMalahleni to hand over the memorandum.
Solidarity is travelling all over South Africa to hand over these memorandums. Their memorandum serves as an appeal to all companies in South Africa to not engage in similar practices of exclusion. They specifically refer to share schemes of employees.
They feel that all employees needs to be included in such share schemes thus aligning employee benefits with the company’s mission and to prevent the development of racial tension.

The most important reason for their memorandum is to make employers aware of the latest report on the HRC (Human Rights Commission) regarding equality.
In summary the report states that the Employment Equity Act in its current form is unconstitutional and does not comply with the requirements of the United Nation’s convention for the elimination of all forms of discrimination.
Solidarity aims to use this memorandum to bring the HRC report and the implication thereof to the attention of companies and employers.

Solidarity also states in the memorandum that they won’t hesitate to proceed with litigation if any company should continue to apply unlawful affirmative action.
WITBANK NEWS reached out to Eskom for a comment regarding the handover of the memorandum but no reply was received before the time of going to print.
