Clydesdale Colliery contributes to Klipfontein
On October 12, Universal Coal New Clydesdale Colliery handed over Klipfontein Dam, now known as Klipfontein Recreational Park, to Emalahleni Local Municipality.

Universal Coal PLC successfully purchased Exxaro New Clydesdale Colliery in 2015, now known as Universal Coal New Clydesdale Colliery.
Universal Coal New Clydesdale Colliery is situated 30km southwest of Kriel township, which falls within the Emalahleni Local Municipality.
The major surrounding towns include Emalahleni (33 km to the north), Middelburg (43 km to the north-northeast), Bethal (36 km to the south-southeast), Hendrina (39 km to the east) and Secunda (43 km to the south-southeast). The village of Vandyksdrift borders the mine to the north.

A crowd, including the executive mayor, Cllr Linah Malatjie, gathered to watch the handover take place.
On October 12, Universal Coal New Clydesdale Colliery handed over Klipfontein Dam, now known as Klipfontein Recreational Park, to Emalahleni Local Municipality.
Universal Coal New Clydesdale Colliery, as part of their social upliftment programs, fenced the park, renovated existing infrastructure such as the restrooms, built braai facilities, built a guardhouse and installed an entrance gate.
Emalahleni Local Municipality assisted in facilitating the relevant community consultation processes.
Emalahleni Local Municipality has committed to mobilising resources to sustain the project to serve as a revenue generation for through entrance fees.
