Diwali, Hindu festival of lights will is set for 7 November. It is celebrated every autumn in the northern hemisphere.
One of the most popular festivals of Hinduism, Diwali symbolises the spiritual ‘victory of light over darkness, good over evil and knowledge over ignorance’. Diwali is also particularly associated with Lakshmi, the goddess of prosperity, and marks the beginning of the financial year in India.
Diwali is celebrated to honor Rama-chandra, the seventh avatar (incarnation of the god Vishnu).

It is believed that on this day Rama returned to his people after 14 years of exile during which he fought and won a battle against the demons and the demon king, Ravana.
Diwali is the five-day festival of lights, celebrated by millions of Hindus, Sikhs and Jains across the world.
The festival, which coincides with the Hindu New Year, celebrates new beginnings and the triumph of good over evil and light over darkness.
It is advised that pets be kept inside during this time, as possible fireworks might be set off.
