Republiek Street is a quiet road in Ben Fleur where nothing much ever really happens, except of course, if you happened to be the unlucky residents of one of the homes that has been targeted by a group of vicious hoodlums in the area.
On Sunday night, November 11, a Republiek Street resident and his wife retired to bed at approximately 21:00.
Earlier that evening, they had noted a suspicious silver double cab Isuzu pickup truck parked in front of their gate, but chalked it off to being a lost driver and made nothing of it.
The next morning they woke up and realized what had transpired during the evening.
Someone had gained access to their garden by climbing over the boundary wall, and opened their driveway gate by opening the gate motor’s box.
The criminals who had forced their way onto these Republiek Street residents’ property had also poisoned the beloved family pet, their dog, for good measure.

All of the above was done to facilitate the theft of one specific thing; the blue Kawasaki jet ski which the residents kept on their property.
The thugs made off with this jet ski, which’s number plate was JLN712MP.
The residents immediately contacted SACCW Witbank, who dispatched police officers and placed a bolo on the jet ski.
That was not the end of this Republiek Street couple’s woes.
The very next evening Maureen Scheepers of the SACCW Witbank received another communication from the couple; this time that someone had gained access to their yard and had stolen the gate motor’s battery, raising concerns that their home might be a target.
The SACCW Witbank will do additional patrols in the area until it is certain that the danger has passed for these specific Republiek Street residents, but citizens of eMalahleni are urged to remain vigilant.
