Siyanqoba residents are not happy

The residents of Siyanqoba said they have raised these problems at the municipality but their pleas have fallen on deaf ears

Some members of the community of Siyanqoba are complaining about different problems they encounter at the new houses.

The residents of Siyanqoba said they have raised these problems at the municipality but their pleas have fallen on deaf ears.

One of the community members, Ms Flora Maseko says she has a sewerage problem and the sewerage water comes from her sewer flowing outside all over her yard and flooding other people’s yards as well.

She says the problem started in April last year and that has forced her to dig up a furrow in her yard to direct the water downwards.

Some of the people are complaining about their door frames which were not properly put in their houses.

“It becomes a problem once it starts to overflow because some of my neighbours cannot take it. It becomes worse when it rains and it became my problem, I have tried several times to report it but help is not coming”.

Community members are also complaining about their window panes which are said to be not strong resulting in some of them falling out as well as their door frames which are weak as well.

They are also not satisfied about bathroom baths and they said they are leaking water.

Another reported problems is rain water flooding their homes every time it rains.

Some of the community members are complaining about their sinks which are not stable leading them to put poles for support.

“We are also complaining about the fee that we must pay to have electricity connected into our homes. We feel that the amount of R800 is too much for us, even though we need the electricity to be connected to our homes but the fee is too much,” said a member of the community. The municipality is currently visiting communities (Imbizo) to get a mandate. Communities are allowed during Imbizo to raise issues affecting them which they would like to be included in the budget. We encourage communities to attend these Imbizo’s and raise matters which affect them. There are plans in place to improve the living conditions of residents, including in Siyanqoba,” said Mr Kingdom Mabuza, municipality communication manager.
