Emalahleni Home Affairs celebrated Mandela Day by opening and rendering services on weekends.

The eMalahleni executive mayor Cllr Linah Malatjie accompanied by the council speaker Cllr Busi Hlumabane visited the local Home Affairs which was opened on Saturday and Sunday, July 20 and 21.

The days were dedicated to people living with disabilities and those with albinism.

The general public was welcome to visit the office during the opening days to access services.

Those who had previously applied for their smart cards as well as those who had applied for ID’s for the first time (learners and others) were also served.

The re-issue of smart cards, temporary ID’s and passports applications were also done.

The office was opened from 08:30 till 16:00 on Saturday and from 08:30 till 13:00 on Sunday.

There were previous reports of poor service at the Home Affairs but the people found at the office said the service was slowly improving than it was previously.

Even though they said the service was a bit slow, they were happy to be served by the officials who had showed some care and understanding which was lacking in the past.

They had hoped the service will stay that way.
