An attempted murder was reported after a Fidelity ADT security officer responded to an alarm that went off at a funeral undertaker premise.

The incident took place in Kruger Street in the Central Business District (CBD) on Friday, January 3, at around 18:29.

The security officer said that he found a man at the funeral undertaker who was locking the building and told him that he had pressed a wrong button on the alarm remote.

“After understanding that it was a false alarm, I went back to the vehicle and I noticed two men approaching our direction. One had a firearm with him,” he said.
“I quickly went to the car and the man with a firearm shot at me but fortunately, I did not get hurt.”
The security officer continued to explain: “As they ran away, I got out and I also fired a shot in their direction to save my life.”

The officer added that the man from the funeral undertaker did not notice the two men when they were coming and he also did not get hurt.

The security officer went to Witbank Police Station after the incident to open a case of attempted murder. The suspects are unknown.
