3 accused remain in custody as Radebe murder case returns to court
The arrests follow Vusimuzi Radebe’s alleged mob killing on September 19, an incident his family believes stemmed from mistaken identity.
Three people remanded in custody following the fatal assault of Vusimuzi Radebe (40) are expected to apply for bail on October 6.
Nkosinathi Samkelo Masinga (31), Queenath Skosana (39), and Lassy Phahlamohlala (42) made their first appearance in the Emalahleni Magistrate’s Court on September 28. The trio was remanded in custody pending their formal bail application.
The fatal attack
Radebe died on September 19 after he was assaulted, allegedly by a group of community members in Lynnville. Police responded to a complaint of alleged vigilantism and found a man lying on the ground with visible injuries. Emergency medical services personnel declared him dead at the scene.
A murder case was subsequently opened, prompting a manhunt that led to the arrest of the three accused.

Family demands answers
The arrests have provided some progress in the case, but Radebe’s family say they are still seeking answers about the circumstances surrounding the attack. Relatives believe he may have been mistaken for someone involved in criminal activity and have maintained that there was no evidence linking him to any crime.
The family has also expressed concern about the lack of updates regarding the police investigation following his burial on September 25.

Calls for further arrests
Advocacy organisation All Voices Matter has welcomed the arrests and called for a thorough investigation. The organisation has urged police to identify and arrest all those involved in the alleged mob attack and to keep the family informed about developments in the case.
Police investigations continue. No further arrests had been announced at the time of publication. National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson for Mpumalanga, Monica Nyuswa, confirmed that the matter is expected to return to court on October 6.
