Sneaking their way into your house

With the new year, burglars also came up with some new tricks to get into your house.

Excuses from wanting to use the loo to “I’m looking for wedding dresses” are daily being used by these masterminds to get into your home.

Two of eMalahleni’s residents sadly fell for these tricks and they had to pay the price.

On Friday, February 14 just past noon a car with a North West registration plate pulled into the driveway of a house in Mulberry Street.

The house helper allegedly went to the gate to ask the people in the vehicle what they were looking for as they were hooting.

The occupants of the car however asked the helper to go and fetch the owner of the house as they want to speak to her.

It is alleged that when she reached them, they asked her if she sells cupcakes or wedding dresses.

While they were talking, one of the ladies that drove in the car allegedly asked to go to the bathroom as she said she was pregnant.

The house owner opened the gate for her to go to the bathroom and that’s when the other woman and a man, allegedly her husband also entered the premises.

The man then grabbed the house owner and covered her mouth with his hand in an attempt to keep her from screaming.

Allegedly he then fired two shots with a gun into the ceiling and one of the ladies grabbed a phone that was lying on the counter.

After a few minutes the suspects ran away as they thought someone was coming.

This matter is being investigated by the police.

Another ‘act’ doing the rounds is a ‘plumber’ coming to check your pipes at your house.

On Wednesday, February 12 a domestic worker was at the home in Gemini Street, Reyno Ridge where she works when she heard the bell ring.

“I went to the gate to see who it was. When I got there, I saw it was a man and he told me that he is a plumber coming to fix some of the plumbing,” the domestic worker explained.

The domestic worker then went back into the house to inform the owner of the man outside.

“My boss said she did not know what this man was talking about and then while we were still inside the house talking, the man somehow got in and he was standing next to us. There was another man with him now and he said that they are just there for jewellery,” she added further.

The domestic worker allegedly screamed for help and ran towards her employer.

The employer allegedly handed her wedding ring to one of the suspects.

“Then the other guy pulled out a knife and he made us lie down on the floor.”

It is alleged that during this time the granddaughter of the home owner also arrived and she was instructed to lie down as well.

The suspects got away with jewellery, laptops, a television, a safe, a sound system and they also drove off with the home owner’s car, a grey Jeep Compass.
