Tammy Taylor Nails SA – How it All Began

Tammy Taylor Nails salons have become synonymous with luxury, quality, glamour and style in South Africa over the past seven years.

Being a Tammy Taylor Nails SA client is a classy statement for most women, and being the owner of one of these magnificent salons is every woman’s dream. But how did it all begin?

Tammy Taylor, who started the brand in the US, has been in the professional nail and beauty industry since 1983 and has helped shape the way the nail industry does nails. She has taught over 5 000 classes, made over 250 YouTube videos, done countless sets of nails and developed a complete line of nail products.

“I opened my first salon in 1981, when I was 18 years old, with only a $400 budget,” says Tammy. “It was only 385 square feet, but within two years, it expanded into a larger, full-service salon.”

Her love for nails was continuously growing and she saw a gap in the market for a high-quality product. Tammy soon expanded further, producing her own professional nail product line, not only for use in her own salon, but to sell to other nail technicians.

She began offering seminars, workshops, teaching nail technicians, salon owners, beauty school instructors and students on skills and how to build their own business. Tammy stood out from other nail brands because she believed in providing educational training on her products and nails – something very few brands were doing.

Tammy soon became known for having the highest quality nail products and the most in-depth educational classes and videos. She also educates her students on providing the best customer service as she is passionate about treating each customer like a Queen.

Her nail products and classes were so popular she started teaching classes and selling products worldwide, and is now an international benchmark brand in the nail industry.

“In 1986, I set a world record for the fastest set of pink and white sculptured nails, in less than 20 minutes, and in front of a live audience,” says Tammy. “I still continue to hold this title to this day!”

In 1990, Tammy wrote “The Complete Guide to Manicuring and Advanced Nail Technology”. It is still used in the nail industry by professionals and beauty schools to prepare students to pass their State Board Examinations.

“For over 30 years, I have developed a comprehensive business including nail products, tools and procedures that helped shape the way the nail industry does nails,” says Tammy. “I always say that nails should be fun and never feel like work!”

So how did the brand come to South Africa? In 2013, Melany Viljoen, Founder and President of Tammy Taylor Nails South Africa, was watching YouTube nail tutorials when she came across Tammy Taylor, and both the brand and the woman behind it piqued her interest.

“When I discovered the brand that day, I knew I wanted to bring that same spirit of teaching excellence to South Africa,” says Melany. “Alternative nail techniques and products have been a passion of mine from a young age, and when I discovered the Tammy Taylor brand, I knew immediately I had found a professional product of the highest quality.”

Melany went to the US to meet with Tammy, and quickly secured the sole ownership and distributorship of the Tammy Taylor brand in South Africa. She qualified as a master nail career educator with Tammy in the USA, as well with Tammy’s director of education world-wide, Mary Stokus.

Fast forward to 2020, and Tammy Taylor Nails South Africa is already a great success story, making boss ladies out of women across the country. The brand stands for women empowerment, women entrepreneurship, and women making their mark in business, along with offering an unmatched salon experience to women across the country.
