Community intervention after allegations of an elderly abuse
There are allegations of assault towards the granny as she is sometimes seen with bruises and walks with a limp and is under treatment for a chronic illness

The community of Vosman stood up and marched to a house in the area after allegations of an elderly woman being abused was reported.
According to one community member she heard about the abuse of the granny who is believed to be about 70 or 80 years old last year in October and when she asked about it from the neighbours, they said they were too afraid to intervene.
“Last week when I visited the area, I saw for myself the granny being told to do the washing, to carry water in a bucket to put into the washing dish. She was struggling to even carry the water bucket, and she is walking with a limp. I decided to videotape her to have proof. I then consulted committee members and organisations in the area. I cannot stand and watch elderly people being abused in our community,” said the community member.
It is said that a family member keeps the Sassa grant card with her and the granny has no access to her card.
There are allegations of assault towards the granny as she is sometimes seen with bruises and walks with a limp and is under treatment for a chronic illness.
The community members decided to march to the home on Saturday, October 17 for an intervention.
The granny has been moved to other family members in Lynnville.
They decided as community members to send home-based care groups to check on the granny daily and will try to make arrangements to send her to an old age home.
